sometimes i go to red cross blood drives
with nurses all in white and elderly volunteers
and sometimes i go to book releases
either way, we all wait around for our names to be called
then we spill a little part of our insides
through black microphone wires
or translucent iv tubing
secretly, in the cheap teeth clenched hope
that this act alone will redeem
all the other parts of us
then we eat chocolate chip cookies
and drink orange juice or coffee
and leave with a small piece of us out in the universe
sometimes i go to red cross blood drives
and sometimes i go to book releases
and practice the law of entropy
