poems and poets

A poet is a person who manages, in a lifetime of standing out in thunderstorms, to be struck by lightning five or six times.

~~~Randall Jarell
"A poem . . . begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. . . . It finds the thought and the thought finds the words."
''To be a poet is a condition, not a profession. "
~~~Robert Frost

How about these...

"Poetry is a way of taking life by the throat."
-Robert Frost

"There are two classes of poets - the poets by education and practice, these we respect; and poets by nature, these we love."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

to be me a poem is something that gets remembered and so a poet is a guy or gal that lets something slip that gets remembered in the morning
